John Muhammad, 41 and John Lee Malvo, 17 are currently being tried for the month-long sniper shootings. Thirteen people were shot throughout five states in the fall of 2002, including a thirteen-year-old boy; eleven of the thirteen victims died.
John Lee Malvo and John Muhammad
The 8-1/2 year veteran had been described as "a charming neighbor, devout Muslim" yet ended up a precision killer, who coerced a teenager into being his accomplice (he is said to have admitted to shooting at least two of the victims).
The alleged motivation was to gain custody of three of his children. By killing a series of people, before shooting his ex-wife, Muhammad thought she would just be considered one of many victims.
