Biographical Summary:
- 1914-1918 serves in German Army reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant -- awarded Iron Cross
- member of antisemitic movements -- eventually merges with Nazi Party
- 1923 founding editor of Der Stürmer -- a virulently quasi-pornographic antisemitic weekly which would reach peak circulation of 800,000
- 1923 participant in the failed Beer Hall Putsch
- 1925 appointed by Hitler as Gauleiter ("Regional Leader") for the Nazi Party in Franconia - Nuremberg.
- 1926-1940 hosts the various Nazi rallies at Nuremberg
- encourages riots and pogroms against Jewish community in Nuremberg much to Hitler's displeasure, who prefers more subtle legislative antisemitic measures
- 1939 dismissed as Gauleiter for being too "unscientific" in his antisemitism (too public - too violent), financial improprieties and abuse of office
- continued to edit Der Stürmer until 1945
- scores lowest among Nuremberg defendants on IQ test: 106
