Biography of Ernst Kaltenbrunner
Biographical Summary:
- Graduated law school 1926.
- Joined the Austrian Nazi Party 1932.
- Operated secretly for the unification of Germany with Austria.
- Arrested by Austrian authorities in 1934 and served six month imprisonment for conspiracy to overthrow Austrian government.
- Becomes head of the underground Austrian SS in 1935.
- 1938-1943 high ranking SS and Police official in Austria.
- January 30. 1943 appointed head of the RSHA - the headquarters of the SD and Gestapo - to replace Reinhardt Heydrich who was assassinated in June 1942.
- Oversees the culmination of the Final Solution which was planned and undertaken by his predecessor Heydrich since October of 1941.
- Appointed as a "non-threatening" candidate to his superior, Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler.
- Scores second lowest IQ among the defendants: 113.
