Unabomber
Theodore Kaczynski
For eighteen years Theodore Kaczynski, dubbed "The Unabomber," mailed or hand delivered 16 of his home-made pipe bombs to scientists, academicians and others he identified as participating in the advancement of technology. As a result, three people were killed, and twenty-three were wounded.
Kaczynski was a bright, but troubled man who was obsessed with anti-technological despondency and the evils of science. When his Manifesto Against Technology was published in the paper and his brother, David, recognized the style of writing and contacted the authorities.
In 1998, the intellectually gifted, former mathematics professor, turned Montana hermit and mail bomber, pleaded guilty, and was convicted of the bombings. He was sentenced to four consecutive life terms, plus 30 years.
